It is a great pleasure and honour to invite you to Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world, to attend the 20th International Conferences on Mechanics in Medicine and Biology (ICMMB), to be held in the Crown Conference Centre from 24-25 May 2017.

ICMMB is a biennial event that presents an interdisciplinary forum of engineering, medicine and biology. The idea for ICMMB was conceived in 1977 by a group of researchers from various countries including Professors Wen Jei Yang, Dhanjoo Ghista, Helmut Reul, Gunter Rau, Eric van Vollenhoven and Tin Kang Hung. Later it was joined by Professors Kajiya and Pallotti.

ICMMB brings together biomedical engineers and scientists from around the world to represent government, industry and academia. Delegates have the opportunity to initiate and establish collaborations, engage in networking and share information with fellow researchers and the biomedical and bioengineering community at large. The conference will cover key biomedical engineering issues faced in everyday practice and present the latest advancements in this and associated fields. The conference focuses on the use of mechanics in medicine and biology and will cover, but is not limited to, the following themes:

  • Tissue engineering, biomaterials and bio-fabrication;
  • Advances in stem cell therapies;
  • Medical, rehabilitation robotics and assistive devices;
  •  Neuroscience and neuro-engineering; and
  • Biomechanics and computer modelling/simulation.

ICMMB conference speakers are experts in their field. The 2017 conference will feature:

  • Anthony Weiss - University of Sydney (Australia)
  • Seeram Ramakrishna - National University of Singapore (Singapore)
  • William Wagner - University of Pittsburgh (USA)
  • Xiumei Mo - Donghau University (China)
  • Yasuhiko Tabata - Kyoto University (Japan)
  • Paul Verma - Monash Institute of Medical Research (Australia)
  • Samira Musah - Harvard University (USA)
  • Romano Zannoli - University of Bologna (Italy)
  • Rikky Muller - University of California, Berkeley (USA)
  • Yosry Morsi - Swinburne University of Technology (Australia)
  • Fong-Chin Su - National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan)
  • Itsu Sen (Yi Qian) - Macquarie University (Australia)

ICMMB welcomes abstracts for both oral and poster presentations. You can find all the information about the abstract submission process here. Selected high-quality articles presented at the conference will be published in the Journal of Mechanics in Medicine and Biology (World Scientific Publishing Company, Singapore), following the standard peer review according assessing the article’s scope and relevance to the Journal.

The two day conference will feature an informative program, abundant networking opportunities and an exhibition presenting a wide range of medical devices and products. We have carefully prepared an interesting networking program that includes cultural and leisure activities to make your stay in Melbourne truly unforgettable.

The conference activities will take place at the Crown Conference Centre, located in Melbourne’s CBD. With stunning views over the city and proximity to all the city’s attractions, the venue is ideally located within walking distance of major hotels and transport.

We look forward to welcome you in Melbourne in 2017.
